Workouts and challenges

In this article:

Workouts are fun play-along lessons that help students hone in on their musical skills. They cover various topics and have multiple difficulty and duration options.

Challenges are a collection of workout-style videos that build your skills one step at a time. They help you develop broader musical skills at a manageable pace — usually over a few days. 30-Day Chops is a challenge built on several rudiment workouts of various difficulty levels.

What’s the difference between Workouts/Challenges, Courses, and the Method?

What is it?  Who is it for?  Possible Problem It Can Solve For A Student
Workouts & Challenges An innovative approach to music education. Like Peloton but for your instrument… just press start, play along, get into a flow state, and grow your musical skills.  The student who learns by doing

“I’d like to play drum chops like ZackGrooves — and I learn best by playing along with an instructor until I master the skill.”

Solution: 30-Day Chops

Courses & Packs A more traditional way to learn. Like watching YouTube videos… hitting play, watching, and applying the knowledge after. But it’s better than YouTube because our instructors are the best in the world.  The student who learns by watching or listening first

“I’d like to play drum chops like Aaron Spears — and I learn best by listening or watching an instructor, and practicing by myself after.”

Solution: The Building Blocks Of Drum Chops

Where can I find workouts?

Workouts can be accessed from the left navigation menu as shown below for all platforms

When should I do a Workout vs. a Challenge?

Workouts are best incorporated into your practice sessions, either as one-offs or something you repeat every week, to help build a specific musical skill. On the other hand, Challenges are better if you can commit at least a few days to master a broader set of skills or develop greater muscle memory and dexterity.

Do Drumeo’s old challenges still exist?

Yes, you can find them under the “Shows” menu item here

How long does each workout last?

Workouts can last from anywhere from 5 - 20+ minutes. Some may go up to an hour depending on the nature of the content.

How can I find out which workouts are for my level?

Levels are shown below each "card."

and in the banners

Using the new filters, you can zero in on content that matches your current level

What are all the levels? Do they correspond to anything?

Difficulty levels are changing with Workouts, and more changes will follow in the coming months.

  • Introductory (level 1) - someone who has never played the instrument
  • Beginner (2-3)
  • Intermediate (4-5)
  • Advanced (6-7)
  • Expert (8-10) - those who have put in the work to complete the Method for a given instrument

Is there a list of expected outcomes covered in each workout?

Yes, each Workout is a focused, targeted practice session aimed at training a specific skill technique or piece of theory. Once you have put in the practice time you will have met the outcome for that specific Workout.

Is there a playlist of similar workouts?

As we release new content, new playlists will be created that may encompass similar workouts.

Can I save Workouts and Challenges to Playlists?

Yes, Workout and Challenge content can be added to a Playlist.

Is there a step-by-step for workouts like the Method?

Each Workout is a self-contained lesson. The concepts for the desired outcome (learning an arpeggio, chop, or guitar chord) are introduced gradually throughout the Workout and are complete, at the intended difficulty level, at the end of the Workout. For more long-form and structured Workouts, we have Challenges - Challenges operate like a course with larger concepts and ideas being introduced over a series of Workouts.

Are there play-alongs in conjunction with workouts?

Yes, every Workout should have an associated play-along with it. Sometimes it will be fully transcribed, sometimes it will be bar text, but they will all be synced to the instructor video and loopable. We’ve also added new buttons to our chapters to make this faster and easier!

Can I practice more than one workout at a time?

You can practice as many Workouts at a time as you like, however, we would recommend zeroing in and working to build your skills in a manageable way so you are not overwhelmed.

Can I print the notation for my workout?

This will vary depending on copyright restrictions in place for the content - for the most part, there will be no restrictions for Drumeo. For Singeo, Guitareo, and Pianote, that will vary.

What are the new buttons under the Chapters?

The functionality is to Practice or Loop a section

Do I have to pay extra for Workouts?

No, all Musora students will have access to Workouts and Challenges as part of their membership.

I’m a visual learner. Do you have notation for the Workouts?

Notation will be available for some of the workouts as the instructors deem it appropriate

Do I get XP points for Workouts?

Yes, based on difficulty level, similar to other content on the site
